Being a big fan of both Dark Shadows and Johhny Depp, I could not have been more interested in this story and sharing this news.


Lucky for us, the amazing duo of Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton are getting together yet again to bring us a film based on the 1960's soap opera Dark Shadows.

Ahead of it's time, Dark Shadows was a gothic soap opera. Yes, I said gothic soap opera, full of vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and witches along with other mystical elements that began airing in 1966 and ran through 1971. Many school kids, including those in our household, would rush home from school just to catch one of the creepy, great, atmospheric episodes.

Johnny Depp will play Barnabas Collins, a 175 year old vampire. Think about it. Can you think of a better actor to play Barnabas? Johnny will rock this role.

Depp has stated that as a kid he was obsessed with Barnabas Collins. He thought about what it would be like to be him. Tim Burton has also mentioned in the past that he is a fan of the show.

"Tim and I have tossed the idea for Dark Shadows over the years. It was a TV program in the States in the late 60s and early 70s that I remember watching as a kid. I was obsessed with this character, Barnabas Collins, who was a vampire. I came to find out many years later that when he was a kid, Tim ran home like I did to watch that Gothic soap opera. It was a very strange thing back then. We looked at ways to go, story-wise. We've started to come up with something interesting."

The Johnny Depp Tim Burton adaptation of Dark Shadows is slated to begin shooting in February, 2011 with a tentative release in 2012.
